Today, Trenchtown is a grower-owned Denver recreational and medical dispensary, built on years of hands-on cannabis experience and a passion for knowing what great cannabis should be.
2009: two friends and a couple of lights
The story began in 2009 in a historic brewery warehouse in Downtown Denver with 2 guys and a couple of lights. In the founders' own words, the idea was "that a cannabis business could be built from the ground up with hard work, great help, and very little money. We were right."
That start is why we still talk about flower the way growers do.
2010: the shop opens
"We are Trenchtown Cannabis. The hometown heroes since 2010." The promise underneath it has stayed the same: whether you are a patient or a customer, we promise to treat each of you as if you are family.
2013: settled on Sheridan
The first shop was a small space in the Highlands. By the time Westword reviewed us in December 2013, the shop had moved to 734 Sheridan Blvd. Today we hold recreational license Rec 402R-00251 and medical license Med 402-00566 at 734 Sheridan Blvd.
2014: Westword's pick for the name
Westword's Best of Denver 2014 named Trenchtown MMC, as the shop was then known, the Best Name for a Marijuana Dispensary. You can still read the Westword write-up.
Where the name comes from
The name comes from Trench Town in Kingston, Jamaica, a neighborhood famous for its connection to reggae, music and culture. Trench Town is a neighborhood in the parish of Saint Andrew, part of which is in Kingston, and it is home to the Trench Town Culture Yard Museum. That independent spirit is the one we try to keep behind the counter.
The founders came back
The founders stepped away for a stretch, and now they are back running the shop they started. The way they put it: the boys are back at Trenchtown. The plan is to bring the shop back to its roots while building something new for today's Denver cannabis community.

Our roots are in cannabis cultivation. We learned this plant from the ground up, and that experience still shapes everything we do. Being grower-owned means we know cannabis, from the plant itself to the finished product, and we know the difference between good cannabis and great cannabis.
